Help With A Collaborative Art Project

Grade 5 was inspired by recycled art that they saw at the Change Innitiave when they visited for a field trip. They returned to school and designed their own artwork, titled, "Why?", asking people to consider their use of trash. It will be made from collected plastic. Now all they need is your help!

Please save any small coloured pieces of plastic such as old plastic toys, Lego, small coloured plastic from packaging or bottle caps that you were going to throw out and bring them to us!

We are also looking for old newspapers, plastic grocery bags and yogurt tubs to reuse in the art room.

Please bring any donations to C-202. Thank you!

Grade 5 Collaborative Project

Grade 5 students are thinking about what their time in the PYP means to them -Keith Haring Style!

This student reflected on internationalism. His character holds a flag from his own country, Turkey in one hand
and the UAE's flag in the other.

This student reflects on how he can express himself in many ways -especially artistically!

Expressing thoughts on friendship, homework, inquiry, sports and many more things...

We're almost there! Look out for the finished product in the entrance to the school next week!

Grade 4 Collaborative Project

Take a sneak peek at our end of year collaborative project. Klimt's 'Tree of Life' was an inspiration for the Grade 4's first painting this year. Students discussed the theme of growth and change and painted their own version of a tree of life back in September. It's fitting that they end the year by reflecting on their growth and revisiting the painting. All Grade 4s are contributing to this multimedia piece. Check back to see how it develops!

Grade 3 Collaborative Project

This week, Grade 3 students were asked to relax, close their eyes and they were taken through a visualization exercise where they had to imagine their most prized possession. After sharing their special objects with the class, students noticed some patterns; there were many toys, technology, sports items and musical instruments on their list. Next, they viewed a slide show of kids from all over the world -from many different countries, backgrounds and socioeconomic groups. Grade 3 students were asked to identify what was similar and what was different between their choices and those of other kids. You can view the slide show here:

Most Prized Possessions

In the beginning, it was the differences that many students noticed, such as that many of the items they chose were expensive. As we discussed the photos, students noticed that there were similarities too. They noticed that all of  the children seemed like they wanted to have fun! They chose many kinds of toys and wanted to play :) They think that having fun is a very important part of being a kid! is it a need? There were many more reflections that will be displayed with the quilt at our next Celebration of Arts.

All students are contributing a print of their most prized possession to the quilt this week. Each student is designing a plate which they are using to print onto the quilt. We hope you enjoy it!

What an Amazing Grade 2 Gallery!

Here are the proud Grade 2 students with their collaborative circle art. Beautiful work, Grade 2s! More pictures coming soon!

Collaborative Circle Art

-->

Grade 2 artists are busy in their regular classes investigating new artists and art styles. Their current unit of inquiry, “Tell me a Picture” is all about art!

In visual art class, we have been working on a very special project. It’s a large collaborative artwork that will be on display for the Grade 2 end of unit art show. Every student in Grade 2 will have an opportunity to add to the artwork. Students are learning what it means to collaborate, what kinds of words we use when we collaborate and how it feels to work together!
